Akash Ambani Praises PM Modi’s Vision For India’s Digital Industry

Reliance Jio Infocomm Chairman Akash Ambani on Thursday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying his vision has been a guiding force for India’s digital industry.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026 in New Delhi, Akash Ambani said Jio aims to develop disruptive services while creating technology rather than merely consuming it.

“His mission for the industry truly motivates us and pushes us in ways never before. The biggest message was to ensure we become a technology creator. That is the path Jio has been on,” he said.

Akash Ambani described Jio’s 10th anniversary as a significant milestone and said the company remained focused on strengthening its technological capabilities.

At IMC 2026, Jio showcased its vision for satellite connectivity. The company is working on a proposed constellation of around 1,600 low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites and plans to establish 23 ground stations across India.

The network aims to extend connectivity to areas where terrestrial infrastructure is difficult to deploy.

Presented as ‘sovereign satellite connectivity’, the initiative seeks to retain the entire value chain within India, covering design, engineering, integration, launch and operations.

Earlier, PM Modi inaugurated the 10th edition of IMC and said India’s telecom sector had moved beyond networks and spectrum, with mobile connectivity becoming an important enabler of governance.

“Mobile phone has become a tool of good governance,” the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi added that 5G connectivity had reached every district, supported by more than 5.5 lakh base stations, while mobile internet speeds were now 10 times higher than in 2022.

The Department of Telecommunications and COAI are organising IMC 2026 from October 7 to 10 in New Delhi.
