Akasa Air Also Announces Fuel Surcharge Up To Rs 1,300 On Flights From March 15

Akasa Air on Saturday announced a fuel surcharge on its flight tickets following a sharp rise in aviation turbine fuel prices.

The decision comes amid continuing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East that have increased operating costs for airlines.

The carrier confirmed the update through a statement on the social media platform X.

It said passengers will pay an additional surcharge ranging from Rs 199 to Rs 1,300 across both domestic and international routes.

The airline clarified that the revised charges will apply to all bookings made from 12:01 PM on March 15, 2026.

Tickets purchased before this deadline will remain unaffected by the new surcharge.

Akasa Air further explained that the surcharge will be imposed on a per-sector basis. The amount will vary depending on the distance and duration of each flight segment.

The airline attributed the move to the sharp increase in aviation turbine fuel prices.

Fuel represents one of the largest components of airline operational expenditure and directly influences overall ticket pricing.

Despite the surcharge, Akasa Air stated that it remains committed to maintaining dependable services and reasonable fares.

The company emphasised that it continues to prioritise operational efficiency while delivering reliable travel experiences.

Earlier, major Indian carriers IndiGo and Air India also introduced similar surcharges.

IndiGo announced an additional charge between Rs 425 and Rs 2,300 starting March 14 for both domestic and international routes.

Meanwhile, Air India Express implemented a Rs 399 fuel surcharge on domestic tickets beginning March 12.

Airlines said they will review the surcharge periodically, depending on fuel price trends.
