Adani Group Expands Footprint Across Non-BJP States With Rs 5 Lakh Crore Investment Pipeline

The Adani Group is expanding its footprint across Congress-led and other non-BJP-ruled states, with projects spanning roads, ports, power, renewable energy, cement and data centres and a combined investment pipeline of about Rs 5 lakh crore.

Once seen as being close to the BJP, the ports-to-energy and airports conglomerate is increasingly pursuing projects across political lines, with governments in Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh seeking its investments.

Adani Group’s State-Wise Expansion

In Karnataka, Adani Enterprises emerged as the lowest bidder for both packages of the proposed 16.75-km north-south tunnel road between Hebbal and Central Silk Board in Bengaluru, bidding Rs 22,267 crore.

The contract is yet to be finalised. Gautam Adani met Chief Minister DK Shivakumar last month after the bid became public.

The group already operates the 1,200-MW Udupi power plant and Mangaluru International Airport in Karnataka.

In Kerala, Adani Ports developed Vizhinjam International Seaport, initiated under the previous Left Democratic Front government and continued under the Congress-led administration.

In January 2026, the group launched its second phase with an additional Rs 16,000 crore investment, taking cumulative investment to about Rs 30,000 crore.

Adani operates Thiruvananthapuram International Airport and began construction of a more than Rs 600 crore logistics park at Kalamassery in Kochi.

In Telangana, four MoUs signed in January 2024 envisaged Rs 12,400 crore across data centres, energy storage and defence manufacturing.

Tamil Nadu attracted MoUs worth more than Rs 42,700 crore in 2024, including pumped-storage projects, a hyperscale data centre and cement grinding units.

In Bihar, Adani plans to invest Rs 50,000-60,000 crore over three to four years, including a Rs 27,000 crore, 2,400-MW thermal power project at Pirpainti.

In Andhra Pradesh, Adani has interests including Krishnapatnam Port and renewable-energy and transmission projects, alongside over Rs 20,000 crore in renewable capacity and transmission lines.

Google has separately committed about USD 15 billion for an AI hub in Visakhapatnam, with AdaniConneX and Airtel as infrastructure partners.

The group operates the 1,600-MW Godda power plant in Jharkhand and has cement and supply-chain operations in Himachal Pradesh.

The expanding footprint suggests Adani’s infrastructure ambitions increasingly transcend political boundaries, while state governments seek companies capable of financing and executing large-scale projects.
