Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), a key player in India’s renewable energy sector, has retained its leadership position in the National Stock Exchange’s (NSE) sustainability rankings for the financial year 2025.
With its overall score rising from 74 to 78, the company has once again emerged as the top performer in the country’s power generation sector.
AGEL has also earned the highest sustainability score among all industrial companies within the top 150 listed entities on the NSE.
Only a single organisation from the services sector achieved a marginally higher score, underlining AGEL’s strong commitment to responsible and transparent business operations.
The company demonstrated consistent progress across the NSE’s ESG assessment, which evaluates environmental, social, and governance parameters.
AGEL’s environmental score climbed to 76, reflecting its sustained efforts to promote renewable energy, improve resource efficiency, and minimise waste.
The company has already achieved several key environmental milestones, including becoming water-positive, eliminating single-use plastics, and ensuring zero waste reaches landfills.
Notably, AGEL is the first among the world’s top ten renewable energy firms to attain water-positive status—achieved ahead of its 2026 target.
AGEL’s social responsibility score increased to 74, driven by stronger community development initiatives and enhanced employee welfare measures.
The company continues to invest in local engagement programmes, skill development, and inclusive growth, reinforcing its commitment to social well-being.
The most substantial improvement was seen in the governance pillar, where AGEL’s score surged to 82.
The company maintains robust governance structures, including committees responsible for audits, nominations, risk management, and social impact.
A majority of these committees are led by independent members, ensuring transparency and accountability.
AGEL emphasises genuine governance practices that go beyond basic compliance requirements, strengthening investor confidence and reinforcing its long-term sustainability goals.
AGEL’s strong sustainability performance has been acknowledged by leading global and domestic rating agencies such as FTSE Russell, ISS ESG, Sustainalytics, and CRISIL.
The company has also begun adopting the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) framework, which will help integrate nature conservation and environmental risk assessment into its future strategies.
AGEL’s continued leadership in sustainability rankings highlights the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship, community welfare, and strong governance.
As India accelerates its renewable energy transition, AGEL’s sustained progress places it at the forefront of the nation’s clean energy and sustainable development journey.
