India is taking a giant step towards energy self-reliance with rooftop solar panels lighting up homes across the country. In Amethi, the Adani Foundation has joined hands with the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme to turn Tikariya into a model solar village. With ₹15,000 per household from the Adani Group’s ACC Cement Plant CSR fund and government subsidy, rooftop solar plants are now a reality for many.
The scheme aims to install solar panels on one crore rooftops, offering up to 300 units of free or low-cost electricity monthly. It targets 30 GW rooftop solar capacity by 2026–27. The initiative also creates jobs for local youth and reduces household electricity bills, making clean energy accessible and affordable.
The Adani Foundation’s door-to-door campaign explained the benefits of the scheme. So far, 90 homes in nearby villages have solar plants. The foundation lists beneficiaries, coordinates with officials, and helps register them on the national portal. After roof inspections, documentation, and consent letters, installation begins. Once the electricity department certifies the setup, payments are released.
The cost of a 1 kW plant is ₹65,000. With ₹45,000 from the government and ₹15,000 from the Adani Foundation, villagers pay only ₹5,000. This generates around 135 units monthly—worth ₹877. Higher capacities yield more income, making it a sustainable investment.
Solar power is changing lives. Rameshwar Singh from Lalitpur installed a 3 kW plant and now earns ₹2,500 monthly. The technology requires minimal maintenance and avoids reliance on costly, polluting fossil fuels. According to the World Economic Forum, solar costs will drop 20–25% over the next decade, boosting accessibility.
Branding on each solar-equipped home spreads awareness. The panels and ‘Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana’ name are now symbols of change. Women help spread the word, while youth take up roles as solar technicians. Farmers use solar pumps, cutting irrigation costs.
Every stage—from registration to installation and certification—is documented. Payments are made only after the beneficiary’s approval, ensuring vendor accountability. The administration and the Adani Foundation monitor each case, guaranteeing full transparency.
The PM Surya Ghar Yojana is not just a policy—it is India’s new energy story. It supports the environment, economy, and rural self-reliance. In today’s India, the sun not only rises—it earns, right from the rooftops.
