Amid escalating tension between India and Pakistan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday reviewed the state’s security preparedness.
He held a high-level meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and top officials to discuss emergency measures, including blackout drills and cyber protection.
Fadnavis ordered mock drills in every district and directed the setup of war rooms at the district level.
He instructed officials to coordinate with hospitals to ensure uninterrupted power through alternate systems during blackouts.
Fadnavis also recommended using dark curtains or glasses to block external light.
To build public awareness, he asked the administration to circulate instructional videos among students and citizens, explaining the importance of blackouts and safety measures.
He told officials to study the Centre’s ‘Union War Book’ and ensure its directives are well communicated.
Cyber cells in all districts must monitor social media and act against any accounts aiding Pakistan or spreading misinformation.
Fadnavis allocated emergency funds to all District Collectors and directed them to approve related proposals within an hour.
He asked them to involve the Mumbai Metropolitan Region municipalities and housing societies to promote blackout awareness.
The Chief Minister stressed increased vigilance by the police, more combing operations, and intensified patrols.
He warned that filming military preparations and sharing them online is a punishable offence.
To bolster maritime security, Fadnavis ordered the hiring of fishing trawlers if necessary.
He also called for a cyber audit of critical infrastructure and a system to provide accurate public updates. Military service heads and the Coast Guard will join the next security meeting via video conference.
