Adani Defence Signs Five-Year Deal To Supply Ammunition For AK-203 Rifles

Adani Defence & Aerospace has entered into a five-year agreement with Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) to supply 7.62×39 mm ammunition for AK-203 assault rifles manufactured in India, according to an announcement on Saturday.

The agreement links rifle and ammunition production within India, with Adani Defence supplying the ammunition required for the AK-203 programme throughout the contract period.

The arrangement will likely provide a domestic source for the ammunition and help maintain supply continuity.

The India-Russia intergovernmental agreement established IRRPL in 2019 to manufacture AK-203 rifles indigenously for the Indian Armed Forces. Its production facility is located at Korwa in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.

The joint venture includes Indian entities Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited and Munitions India Limited, along with Russia’s Concern Kalashnikov and Rosoboronexport.

In December 2021, IRRPL signed a contract for 6,01,427 AK-203 rifles, which are to be manufactured at the Korwa facility.

Adani Defence has developed small-calibre ammunition manufacturing capabilities in India, including a production facility in Kanpur.

The latest agreement further expands its role in the domestic small-arms supply chain and supports efforts to increase indigenous defence manufacturing.

The company is working with the Defence Research and Development Organisation on the AEW&C-MKII programme.

Under the project, Adani Defence and DRDO will develop and integrate airborne mission systems on six modified Airbus A321 aircraft for the Indian Air Force, alongside logistics, MRO and technical support for up to 30 years.
