Real People Behind Legendary Myth
Volodymyr Zelensky
Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Friday that Russia will again try to destroy Ukraine’s power grid this winter and that Kyiv is making preparations to preserve its heating facilities.
Concerns over Ukraine’s energy security have grown as the war with Russia has stretched on for nearly 20 months.
During the previous cold season, Russia spearheaded a campaign targeting Ukraine’s power grid and energy facilities, leaving thousands of people exposed to freezing temperatures in parts of Ukraine.
While addressing a press conference, Volodymyr Zelensky stated, “This winter, Russian terrorists will again try to destroy our power system”.
“We are fully aware of the danger”, the Ukrainian President continued.
Ukrainian President went on to say that Kyiv was prepared for the protection of our generating facilities and provision of electricity and heat, restoration of everything damaged by Russian strikes and hostilities.
He stated that government officials convened to discuss energy facility security.
“Winning this winter, going through all the difficulties, and giving protection to our people is very important”, Zelensky added.
Ukraine reported Russia attacking energy facilities across the nation late last month, but claimed it was too early to say whether it was part of a renewed Russian campaign.
