World Court Acknowledges Palestinians’ Right To Be Protected Against Genocide

The United Nations’ top court ruled on Friday that at least some of South Africa’s genocide claims against Israel’s war in Gaza are plausible.

With the reading still proceeding, the court stated that it acknowledges the right of Palestinians in Gaza to be protected against genocide.

The court concluded, “Palestinians appear to be a protected group under the genocide convention”.

The International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) verdict on Friday will not address the case’s central claim, whether genocide happened, but will instead focus on South Africa’s urgent request for intervention.
