White House Calls Trump–Modi Talk On Iran ‘Constructive’; Focus On Strait of Hormuz Stability

The White House lauded a recent phone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the escalating Iran situation, describing the exchange as constructive and cordial.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that President Trump shares a strong rapport with Prime Minister Modi and confirmed the discussion yielded meaningful engagement. She refrained from verifying reports suggesting that Elon Musk participated in the call.

According to The New York Times, two US officials indicated Musk may have been present, signalling a possible reconciliation between him and the President after earlier disagreements.

Reports noted their strained ties following Musk’s exit from a government role, where he had overseen workforce reductions. Recent developments suggest improved relations.

The leaders primarily discussed rising tensions in West Asia, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global energy supplies.

Concerns have intensified over potential disruptions to maritime movement amid developments involving Iran.

Prime Minister Modi, in a social media statement, stressed the necessity of maintaining open and secure sea lanes. He underscored that uninterrupted access to the Strait remains crucial for global stability and economic balance. Both leaders agreed to maintain communication on efforts to ensure peace.

Reports also drew attention to Musk’s unusual inclusion in such high-level diplomatic dialogue. However, his precise role or contribution remains unclear.

The conversation occurred against the backdrop of fears surrounding a possible blockade of the Strait, a scenario that could significantly impact oil markets and energy-dependent economies worldwide.
