What Changed Due To Iran War: A Geopolitical & Economic Analysis

The conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran, termed Operation Epic Fury, began on 28 February and altered regional dynamics profoundly.

The assassination of Ali Khamenei triggered instability, while missile barrages and drone assaults intensified hostilities. A brief ceasefire, mediated by Pakistan, emerged in April, though tensions persist.

Russia capitalised on the crisis. Oil prices surged sharply due to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, boosting Moscow’s daily revenues significantly. This strengthened its economic position amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War.

Iran tightened its grip over the vital maritime corridor, introducing steep transit charges and reshaping global energy trade flows.

Iran’s leadership transitioned to Mojtaba Khamenei. The regime endured but sustained heavy infrastructural and economic damage.

Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, felt increasingly exposed after strikes on critical assets.

The conflict strained NATO cohesion. Donald Trump criticised allies, signalling a shift in American strategic priorities.

Simultaneously, Israel expanded its operational footprint in Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah and pushing for buffer zones.

Globally, energy markets endured severe shocks, driving inflation and shortages. Developing economies such as India faced acute pressure.

The war also accelerated alignment between Russia and China, signalling a shift in global power structures.

Ultimately, the conflict produced no decisive victor. It entrenched hybrid warfare tactics, destabilised alliances, and ushered in a volatile geopolitical order.
