Volodymyr Zelensky Compares Ukraine’s Bakhmut To Hiroshima As Absolute Destruction

On Sunday, President Volodymyr Zelensky compared the total destruction of the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut to the devastation caused by the 1945 atomic bombing of Hiroshima, which is currently the site of the G7 summit.

The longest and bloodiest battle of Russia’s invasion took place in Bakhmut, which had a pre-war population of 70,000 people.

During months of intense conflict, images from Bakhmut occasionally showed a city of ruins.

President Zelensky said, “The photos of Hiroshima remind me of Bakhmut. There is absolutely nothing alive. All the buildings are destroyed”.

He further said, “Absolute total destruction. There is nothing. There are no people”.

President Zelensky claimed that the Japanese effort to repair Hiroshima gave him the motivation to restore the villages and cities of Ukraine that had been obliterated by the invasion.

He said, “Now, Hiroshima is rebuilt”.

“We dream of rebuilding all our cities that are now in ruins and every village where not a single house is left after Russian strikes”, President Zelensky added.

A day after Russia allegedly claimed to have taken full control of Bakhmut, Volodymyr Zelensky made his remarks.

President Zelensky acknowledged that there were Russian troops in Bakhmut but argued that the area was ‘not occupied’ without providing a precise response.
