‘Uzbekistan Loves Yoga!’ PM Modi Praises Yoga Practitioners In Tashkent

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the growing popularity of yoga in Uzbekistan after witnessing a special demonstration by practitioners from the Central Asian country during his Tashkent visit.

The session brought together 52 Uzbek yoga practitioners, including six members of the Yoga Federation of Uzbekistan who competed at the First World Yogasana Championship 2026 in Ahmedabad in June.

PM Modi congratulated the participants for their performance and thanked Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for promoting yoga in the country.

“Namaste, you all have showcased excellent Yoga performance today. People of all ages are present here. I express my gratitude to my friend, the President, for connecting Uzbekistan with Yoga. Many congratulations,” PM Modi said in a video shared on X.

The Prime Minister captioned the post, “Uzbekistan loves Yoga!”

The six practitioners who competed in Ahmedabad were Rakhmanov Kamol Erkinovich, Rakhmanov Alixon Kamoladinovich, Akhunova Dinara Erkinovna, Djumānova Aliya Abubakir kizi, Ansatbayeva Aysulu Arislan kizi and Shakirov Redjep Dmitrievich. Together, they secured 18 medals at the championship — one gold, 14 silver and three bronze.

The Uzbekistan team won 25 medals across different categories at the event.

The yoga demonstration gave added significance to the practitioners’ participation in the Ahmedabad championship and showcased the expanding sporting and cultural links between India and Uzbekistan.

PM Modi arrived in Tashkent on Saturday for a two-day State Visit. He further thanked President Mirziyoyev for personally receiving him at the airport and said it reflected the growing momentum in bilateral relations.

During the visit, PM Modi will likely hold delegation-level talks with Mirziyoyev, with discussions expected to focus on strengthening cooperation and advancing the shared development visions of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Uzbekistan-2030.
