US President Donald Trump said Ukraine should not target Moscow, distancing himself from recent reports suggesting he encouraged Kyiv to escalate strikes deep into Russian territory.
Reporters asked President Trump on the South Lawn of the White House whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should target the Russian capital.
“No, he shouldn’t target Moscow,” President Trump replied firmly, contradicting earlier media reports claiming he had pushed for deeper Ukrainian strikes inside Russia.
When questioned about the possibility of the US supplying long-range missiles to Ukraine, the US President responded, “No, we’re not looking to do that.”
He also clarified his stance in the ongoing war by saying, “I’m on nobody’s side,” according to China’s Xinhua News Agency.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude for Trump’s willingness to support Ukraine and help bring an end to the war.
“I spoke with President Donald Trump. It was a very good conversation,” Zelensky said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Thank you for your willingness to support Ukraine and to continue working together to stop the killings and establish a lasting and just peace.”
Zelensky also mentioned that the US President shared details from a recent meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“It’s important that we have such a good relationship and that the Alliance countries are working to increase defence spending,” Zelensky added.
