US President Donald Trump has acknowledged Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s apology for his recent comments, suggesting a thaw in relations between the two prominent figures, the White House said.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, addressing reporters on Wednesday (US time) stated, “The President acknowledged the statement that Elon put out this morning and he is appreciative of it. We are continuing to focus on the business of the American people.”
When questioned about the potential review of Musk’s government contracts — a step previously hinted at by President Trump — Leavitt responded, “Currently no efforts have been made on that front as far as I’m aware.”
According to a CNN report, Musk made a personal call to President Trump on Monday night and followed up with a public apology on Wednesday, expressing regret over his earlier social media comments that sparked last week’s tensions.
The apology reportedly followed a discussion on Friday involving Musk, Vice President JD Vance, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, where the dispute was a key topic.
CNN, citing sources, reported that several Republican lawmakers and close allies of President Trump have been quietly encouraging Musk to reconcile with the President and support a major legislative effort — a domestic policy proposal referred to as the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’.
The bill is currently facing challenges in the Senate.
Musk, once seen as a close President Trump ally and dubbed his ‘first buddy’ in Silicon Valley, still maintains ties with members of President Trump’s inner circle.
These aides and associates have recently reached out to Musk through personal communications, hoping to ease the friction.
While Musk is reportedly receptive to a renewed understanding, sources say he has raised concerns about the bill’s lack of spending reductions — a point he brought up in conversations with Republican contacts.
Although the situation remains dynamic, President Trump’s public acceptance of Musk’s apology and signs of dialogue from both parties indicate the potential for renewed cooperation between the White House and one of America’s top tech figures.
