US-Iran Technical Talks In Switzerland Postponed, Says Swiss Government

Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the upcoming talks involving the United States, Iran, Qatar and Pakistan will not proceed as originally scheduled.

“The planned talks between the US, Iran, Qatar and Pakistan have been postponed. Switzerland remains ready to facilitate these talks. The relevant preparatory work at Burgenstock is continuing. No further information can be provided at present,” the department stated.

The discussions were expected to mark the transition from a broad political understanding to detailed technical negotiations.

Delegates were due to address issues relating to implementation mechanisms, verification procedures and adherence to the terms of the recently concluded agreement.

The delay means these discussions will now take place at a later date.

The White House announced that Vice President JD Vance would no longer depart as planned for the anticipated negotiations.

US officials emphasised that diplomatic engagement remains active and preparations for the next phase of talks are continuing.

According to administration representatives, organising the negotiations has involved considerable logistical challenges, contributing to the revised schedule.

Speaking earlier, Vance indicated that technical-level discussions were expected to begin shortly and were likely to be hosted in Switzerland. He acknowledged that coordinating participation from all sides had proven complicated but expressed confidence that arrangements would eventually be finalised.

The Vice President also confirmed his intention to head the American negotiating team once formal discussions commence.

US officials have repeatedly argued that the true measure of the agreement will be its execution rather than the commitments made during negotiations.

Reaffirming that position, Vance stated that Washington would assess progress through practical actions and observable conduct.

Although the talks have been delayed, both governments continue to signal support for launching the technical negotiations at the earliest opportunity.
