US India Caucus Praises All-Party Delegation; Vows Stronger Alliance After Pahalgam Attack

US Congressman Rich McCormick, co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional India Caucus, hailed his discussion with India’s all-party parliamentary delegation as ‘outstanding’ and ‘full of great ideas’.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, McCormick declared, “India and the United States will not just remain friends—we will be allies. The future of the world depends on it.”

Unified Condemnation Of Pakistan-Backed Terrorism

Fellow co-chair Ro Khanna emphasised that the delegation embodied India’s pluralism and multi-party democracy.

He noted that every member ‘stood united in rejecting Pakistan’s terrorist act in Pahalgam’, and affirmed bipartisan US support for dismantling terrorist networks operating from Pakistani soil.

Shashi Tharoor Leads Delegation; Receives Robust Support

Delegation head Shashi Tharoor briefed Caucus leaders McCormick, Khanna, Vice Co-Chairs Andy Barr and Marc Veasey on India’s response to cross-border terrorism.

Tharoor later told reporters that US lawmakers displayed ‘very strong support and understanding’ of India’s position after the Pahalgam attack and during Operation Sindoor.

He added, “McCormick was upbeat about every facet of India-US relations—from economic ties to global strategic issues.”

During the briefing, Indian MPs detailed India’s firm stance against terrorism and outlined Operation Sindoor, launched on 7 May in retaliation for the 22 April Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.

Caucus members backed India’s right to respond, repeating their ‘zero-tolerance’ commitment toward terror.

Delegation Showcases India’s Plural Democracy

The visiting team spans India’s political spectrum, including MPs Sarfaraz Ahmad, Ganti Harish Madhur, Shashank Mani Tripathi, Bhubaneswar Kalita, Tejasvi Surya, and former ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

Their itinerary in Washington features meetings with the Senate Foreign Relations and House Foreign Affairs Committees, think-tank scholars, media outlets, and the Council on Foreign Relations.

They will also engage with the Indian-American diaspora.

In a statement on X, the Indian Embassy underscored bipartisan US condemnation of the Pahalgam attack and lauded the ‘strong strategic partnership’ between the two democracies.

The delegation arrived in Washington after a stop in Belgium, continuing India’s post-Sindoor diplomatic outreach.

Upon arrival, Tharoor greeted Indian-American police officers Harmanpreet Singh and Hundal, recorded an interview with CBS News, and received a detailed briefing from Ambassador Vinay Kwatra and embassy officials, further cementing diplomatic and community ties as India and the United States deepen cooperation against terrorism.
