The United States has expressed its condolences following the devastating explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening, which left at least 10 people dead and several others injured.
In a statement, the US State Department said it is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to extend consular assistance if required.
A State Department spokesperson told IANS, “We are aware of the explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi. We are closely monitoring the situation and stand ready to provide consular assistance.”
In a separate post on X, the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs conveyed sympathy for the victims, saying, “Our hearts are with those affected by the terrible explosion in New Delhi. We continue to closely monitor the situation. Our sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured.”
The blast occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station in Old Delhi, one of the most crowded areas of the national capital.
Several vehicles caught fire due to the impact, and witnesses reported scenes of chaos as emergency teams rushed to the site.
Authorities said doctors at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital are treating the injured and monitoring their condition.
Within minutes of the explosion, teams from the Delhi Police, National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), and forensic departments arrived at the scene.
Authorities cordoned off the entire area and began analysing CCTV footage to determine the cause of the blast.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
He also reviewed the situation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Home Minister Shah later visited LNJP Hospital to meet the injured and directed officials to submit a detailed report. He assured that those responsible would be brought to justice.
Following the explosion, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a high alert across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Mumbai.
Security forces have intensified patrolling and increased surveillance around crowded areas, markets, and religious sites to prevent any further incidents.
Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as investigations continue.
The tragedy near one of India’s most iconic landmarks has sparked global concern, with the United States’ swift response underscoring the international solidarity in moments of crisis.
