Ukraine’s military announced on Thursday that it has shot down three more Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers, the latest victory against Moscow’s air force.
On Telegram, Army Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi wrote, “After successful combat operations against an enemy aircraft during the night on Feb. 29, two more Russian aircraft were destroyed: Su-34 fighter-bombers in the Avdiivka and Mariupol sectors”.
Avdiivka, in eastern Ukraine, surrendered to Russian soldiers this month after a lengthy fight. In May 2022, Russia acquired full control of Mariupol, a southern port city.
The Ukrainian military reported last week that Russia lost six jets in three days.
Ukraine’s military has posed a bigger threat to Russian aviation in places close to the front lines since receiving upgraded Western air defence equipment, despite recent reverses on the eastern battlefields.
Kyiv accuses Moscow of using Su-34s to strike civilian targets, particularly in the southern Kherson region, as well as striking Ukraine’s front lines.
Russia has denied purposefully targeting civilians, even though dozens have been killed in its strikes.
