Trump Tightens Immigration Rules After Shooting; Orders Rigorous Green Card Review Across 19 Nations

After suspending immigration applications from Afghanistan, Donald Trump ordered heightened scrutiny of Green Card holders from Afghanistan and other nations.

Joseph Edlow said Thursday that Trump ordered him to launch a full-scale, rigorous review of all Green Cards. He added that immigration officers will re-examine every holder from each designated country of concern.

India is not on the list of countries of concern, nor are others from South Asia, except for Afghanistan.

The actions followed Wednesday’s shooting rampage by Rahmanullah Lakanwal near the White House. He shot National Guard soldiers Sarah Beckstrom and another; Beckstrom died Thursday, and the other remains critically injured.

Lakanwal, who was injured before his capture, is also in the hospital.

Lakanwal worked with the CIA in Afghanistan and came to the US through protection programs for cooperating Afghans.

Soon after the shooting, Trump said, “We must now re-examine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan”.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that despite America’s technological advances, long-term immigration policies have weakened national progress significantly.

He argued these policies harmed living standards by straining resources, limiting opportunities, and undermining economic stability across communities.

“I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen, and remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country, end all Federal benefits and subsidies to noncitizens of our Country, denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization,” he wrote.

Ending his statement, President Trump wrote: “Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation. Other than that, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for — You won’t be here for long!”

Eldow’s broadened scrutiny will subject several hundred thousand green-card holders from the 19 countries to ‘rigorous re-examination’ now.

The other countries on the list are Burma, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

Eldow accused former President Joe Biden’s administration of lax screening of those entering the US.

“Yesterday’s horrific events make it abundantly clear the Biden administration spent the last four years dismantling basic vetting and screening standards, prioritising the rapid resettlement of aliens from high-risk countries over the safety of American citizens,” he asserted.

“Under the new policy guidance, immigration officers will consider country-specific factors as significant negative factors when reviewing immigration requests,” he noted.
