Trump Says Israel-Lebanon Talks To Begin As US Pushes To Ease Tensions

US President Donald Trump has said that talks between Israel and Lebanon will take place on Thursday, as the United States seeks to ease tensions between the two nations.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the effort aims to create ‘breathing room’ between Israel and Lebanon, noting that direct engagement between the two sides has been rare over the past decades.

Earlier this week, officials from both countries met in Washington, where Israel reiterated its demand for Hezbollah’s disarmament, while Lebanon called for a ceasefire and urgent steps to address the humanitarian crisis caused by the ongoing conflict in the region.

According to the US State Department, both sides agreed to begin direct negotiations at a mutually decided time and venue. The meeting marked one of the first significant high-level engagements between the two countries in decades.

The United States has clarified that a potential ceasefire in Lebanon is not part of its broader negotiations with Iran.

Officials indicated that Washington would welcome an end to hostilities as part of a wider agreement between Israel and Lebanon.

Recent discussions, hosted by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, were described as a step towards reducing tensions and exploring pathways to a lasting resolution.

US officials said the focus remains on building trust and creating conditions for a durable peace rather than pushing for an immediate ceasefire, as diplomatic efforts continue across the region.
