US President Donald Trump said that ongoing clashes continued and rising international concerns intensified even as he substantially weakened Iran’s military.
Addressing reporters from the South Lawn, Trump indicated, “We are getting very close to meeting our objectives as we consider winding down our great Military efforts in the Middle East with respect to the Terrorist Regime of Iran.”
“I think we’ve won…We’ve knocked out everything, we’re roaming free. From a military standpoint…they’re finished,” he added.
Despite growing international pressure, Trump ruled out agreeing to a ceasefire. He maintained, “You don’t do a ceasefire when you’re literally obliterating the other side…We’re not looking to do that.”
Speaking about the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said, “We don’t use the strait, the United States, we don’t need it…Europe needs it, Korea, Japan, China, a lot of other people, so they’ll have to get involved.”
Trump urged allies, including members of NATO and partners in Asia, to contribute more actively. He expressed disappointment over their limited engagement and encouraged stronger involvement.
Trump reaffirmed close cooperation with Israel and said both sides shared the goal of achieving a decisive outcome in the conflict.
Even amid the tensions, Trump noted that discussions with Russia over the Ukraine situation were ongoing, signalling continued diplomatic engagement on other global issues.
Trump brushed aside worries about rising oil prices and market fluctuations, stating that the military campaign was essential to prevent nuclear threats. He added that operations were progressing ahead of schedule and could conclude within weeks.
