Trump Claims Approval Authority Over Zelensky Ahead Of Florida Peace Talks

US President Donald Trump stated in an exclusive interview with Politico that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ‘doesn’t have anything until I approve it’, just two days ahead of their scheduled meeting in Florida to discuss a potential peace framework for the nearly four-year-long Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The forthcoming meeting will focus on a proposed 20-point peace plan.

Key topics include the creation of a demilitarised zone, management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, territorial control of Donbas, and US security guarantees following the resolution of hostilities, according to Xinhua news agency reports.

Zelensky confirmed on Friday that he intends to raise the issues of security guarantees and territorial questions during his meeting with Trump.

The Ukrainian President indicated that the 20-point plan is approximately 90 per cent complete, with multiple documents outlining security arrangements already drafted.

Zelensky emphasised that the plan involves four parties: Ukraine, the United States, Russia, and the European Union.

He noted that the agreement cannot be formally signed without the participation of both Russia and European representatives.

After speaking with Rustem Umerov, head of the Ukrainian delegation, Zelensky announced on Telegram that he will meet President Trump soon and expects to make substantial progress before the New Year.

The statements follow three days of intensive discussions in Miami, Florida, last week, during which US, Ukrainian, and European officials aimed to resolve the ongoing crisis.

The Florida meeting will build on these preliminary talks and address the most sensitive issues of security, territorial disputes, and post-conflict arrangements.

Observers note that the upcoming dialogue could play a crucial role in shaping the next steps in the conflict, though the necessity of cooperation from multiple international stakeholders may complicate the negotiation process.
