To ‘Unify His Party’: Biden Reveals Reason Behind His Withdrawal

In an Oval Office address on Wednesday, US President Joe Biden revealed that he has ended campaign for re-election to ‘unify his Party’. He told Americans that he stepped back owing to the larger goal of protecting Democracy. Biden affirmed that protecting is larger than ‘Personal Ambition’.

He believes that the time to ‘pass the torch to new generation’ has come.

Biden, who had just recovered from Covid-19 infection and returned to the White House from self-isolation in his Delaware home on Tuesday, started haltingly but he settled down to his natural tone and tenor midway and went on to lay out his reasons for stepping aside and forging the path for his party and the country to protect and continue the democratic system handed down by the founders.

“In recent weeks it’s become clear to me that I need to unite my party in this critical endeavour,” Biden said, of protecting American democracy.

“I believe my record as President, my leadership of the world, my vision of America’s future, all merited a second term but nothing, nothing can come in the way of saving our democracy, that includes personal ambition.”

Democrats mounted pressure on Biden to make way for other leaders as he performed disastrously poor in Presidential debate against republican candidate Donald Trump. 81-years-old Biden informed about his exit from the race to White House past Sunday given the pressure from inside the party.

Biden listed achievements of his tenure as his took exit to ‘Unify his party’

Announcing his exit earlier, he said that he would disclose the reason later in an address. Eventually, revealing the reason behind his withdrawal, President addressed the countrymen on Wednesday.

The President listed the accomplishments of his presidency: he led a stronger NATO to avert Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, lowered the cost of diabetes medications, named an African-American woman to the Supreme Court, freed the nation from the grip of COVID-19, and proposed a plan for resolving the Israel-Hamas conflict. For the first time in a century, the United States was not at war.

“I have decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. That is the best way to unite our nation.” Biden concluded his address to the country.
