Three Dead, Three Critically Injured In Shooting At US Rhode Island Arena

A shooting at an arena in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, has left three people dead, including the suspected gunman, and three others critically injured, authorities said. The gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following the attack, according to reports.

Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said officers responded to reports of gunfire at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena, where a hockey event involving students from multiple schools was taking place. The venue was crowded with students and parents at the time of the incident.

Preliminary findings suggest the shooter may have targeted members of his own family. Among those killed was a young girl. The three injured victims sustained gunshot wounds and remain in critical condition at a hospital.

Law enforcement swiftly secured the area, shutting down roads surrounding the arena as officers maintained a heavy presence. Helicopters were seen overhead during the emergency response.

Schools participating in the event confirmed that all students have been accounted for. Officials said they were monitoring the situation closely and coordinating plans to ensure safe reunification of students with their families.

Dan McKee said on social media that the Rhode Island State Police were assisting local authorities. He expressed prayers for the Pawtucket community and those affected by the tragedy.

The incident marks the latest episode of gun violence to raise concern in the state. In December, a shooting at Brown University left multiple people dead and wounded, intensifying discussions about public safety and gun violence in the United States.
