Tentative agreement between Israel and Hamas to halt war and release dozens of hostages

Israel, the US, and Hamas have tentatively agreed to release scores of women and children held prisoner in Gaza in exchange for a five-day cease-fire.

All parties would suspend military activities for at least five days as part of the detailed, six-page deal, while an initial 50 or more hostages are released in smaller groups every 24 hours.

During their October 7, 2023, rampage inside Israel, Hamas seized approximately 240 hostages and killed 1,200 people.

According to those familiar with the agreement, the captive release might occur within the next few days.

The White House and the Israeli prime minister’s office did not respond immediately.
