Swiss Court Clears Hinduja Family Of Human Trafficking Charges, Family Seeks Higher Court’s Intervention On Remaining Allegations

The Hinduja family, one of the wealthiest families in Britain, has expressed their “shock” at a Swiss court’s decision to sentence some of its members to jail. They have responded by filing an appeal in a higher court. The Swiss court’s verdict involves four members of the Hinduja family, accused of exploiting domestic helpers at their villa in Geneva.

According to a statement issued by the Hinduja family’s lawyers, Prakash and Kamal Hinduja (both 70 years old), along with their son Ajay and his wife Namrata, have been acquitted of all human trafficking charges. The lawyers dismissed media reports suggesting any family members had been taken into custody following the Geneva court’s ruling.

The legal team, consisting of Yael Hayat, Robert Asael, and Roman Jordan, emphasized, “Our clients have been acquitted of all charges of human trafficking. We have appealed to a higher court against the other aspects of the court’s decision.”

They further highlighted that “Under Swiss law, our clients should be presumed innocent until the Supreme Tribunal issues a final decision. Contrary to some media claims, no family member has been detained. It is also noteworthy that the plaintiffs retracted their complaints in court, stating they never intended to pursue such proceedings. The family remains confident in the judicial process and hopeful that the truth will emerge.”

A spokesperson for the Hinduja family reiterated this confidence in the judicial process, stating that none of the four family members—Kamal, Prakash, Namrata, and Ajay Hinduja—have been sentenced, imprisoned, or convicted in any manner, nor have they been taken into custody. The spokesperson also mentioned that there are no remaining complainants in the case. Those who initially complained revealed in court that they were coerced into signing statements they could not comprehend and had no intention of initiating such proceedings. They testified that the Hinduja family members always treated them “with dignity and respect, like a member of the family.” The spokesperson concluded by expressing the family’s full faith in the Swiss judicial process, confident that the truth will ultimately prevail.
