Shashi Tharoor Leads Indian MPs To Indian Cultural Centre In Panama City

A multi-party Indian parliamentary team, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, began its official schedule in Panama with a visit to the Indian Cultural Centre in Panama City.

The delegation offered prayers at the temple located on the premises.

The visit featured a moment of interfaith unity, as members from various religions prayed together.

Tharoor later shared the experience on social media platform.

Taking to X, he posted, “The multi-party MPs’ delegation visited the Indian Cultural Centre in Panama City and offered devotions at the beautiful temple there. It was moving to see our Muslim colleague Sarfraz Ahmed join his Hindu and Sikh colleagues at the temple. As he later told the audience, “jab bulane walon ko koi aitraaz nahin, toh jaane walo ko aitraaz kyon hoga?”

The delegation arrived in Panama on Tuesday as part of a larger international engagement.

At the airport, they were welcomed by India’s Ambassador to Panama, Dr Sumit Seth, and members of the diplomatic staff.

One of the main goals of the visit is to emphasise India’s clear position against terrorism.

The group also met with Dana Castañeda, President of Panama’s National Assembly, as well as MPs Edwin Vergara and Julio de la Guardia, who previously served as Panama’s Ambassador to India.

According to Tharoor, the delegation explained its purpose and received strong support from Panamanian officials regarding India’s stance on terrorism.

As part of their visit to the National Assembly, members signed the visitors’ book and toured the main chamber.

Tharoor described the engagements as ‘a positive start to our Panama visit’.

Earlier, Ambassador Seth briefed the delegation on current India-Panama ties and areas of mutual interest.

This visit is part of India’s ongoing global outreach to strengthen partnerships and build unity in the fight against terrorism.
