Russia-Ukraine War: Putin Orders Three-Day Pause In Kyiv Strikes Ahead Of US Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a three-day suspension of strikes against Kyiv ahead of talks with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed the development on Saturday. He said Putin would meet the American negotiators and hold talks with them.

“The meeting with President Putin will indeed take place, and there will be talks. As a rule, such meetings have been quite lengthy in the past. Let us wait and see. We will certainly keep you informed,” Peskov told journalists.

Witkoff and Kushner reached Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport at 12:52 PM  local time. Russia’s Special Presidential Envoy Kirill Dmitriev received them at the airport.

Peskov cautioned against predicting possible settlement proposals. He urged observers to await Putin’s discussions with the US representatives before concluding.

The Kremlin statement followed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s claim that Russia had attacked airports in Kyiv and nearby Boryspil overnight.

“Clearly, these Russian strikes on the airports are a reaction to the discussions and preparations for the possibility of the U.S. side using an aircraft to travel to Ukraine and land at Kyiv Airport or Boryspil Airport,” Zelensky said on X.

The Ukrainian President said Ukraine had noted the Russian action and would modify its operations next week concerning Russian airspace.

Zelensky had earlier said he expected to meet US President Donald Trump’s envoys in Kyiv in the coming days.

On Friday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described Russia’s strike on the Security Service of Ukraine headquarters as a ‘major escalation’. He urged allies to condemn Moscow and increase pressure on Russia.
