Russia Strikes Ukraine After Putin Vows Revenge, 2 Killed, Over 50 Injured

Russia unleashed missiles on Kyiv and other cities on Tuesday, killing two people and injuring more than 50 others as strikes destroyed high-rise buildings and ignited fires.

The bombing came less than 24 hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that Moscow would intensify strikes on Ukraine.

Barrages of loud explosions were heard in Kyiv on Tuesday morning at 0500 GMT as air defences worked, rocking buildings in the city centre.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko, one person was killed and 20 were injured in the capital, where missiles caused fires in a supermarket building, residential houses, and a market, in several districts.

The air raid alert in the capital lasted nearly four hours.

As per the Ukrainian air force, Russia is launching Kinzhal missiles.

The attacks on Tuesday come following a recent escalation in the fighting, with both sides launching lethal attacks on each other.

Putin termed an unprecedented Ukrainian attack on the Russian city of Belgorod a terrorist act and vowed revenge on Monday.

On New Year’s Eve, Moscow also launched a series of drones in Ukraine.

Ukraine is seeking reassurance from its allies that military aid will continue, even though the US has released its last tranche under current authorizations and the Republicans are opposing further funding.
