Russia Downs 37 Drones Near Moscow As Ceasefire Violations Escalate

Russian Air Defence Systems intercepted at least 37 drones approaching Moscow on Friday, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. He stated that emergency teams immediately began operations at locations where drone debris landed following the interceptions.

In a Telegram update, Sobyanin confirmed that specialists were assessing affected areas while security agencies monitored the situation across the capital region.

Earlier, the Russian Defence Ministry announced that air defence units destroyed 145 Ukrainian drones within seven hours between 7 AM and 2 PM GMT across several Russian territories.

Reports indicated that Moscow experienced one of the heaviest drone offensives of the year on Thursday, when Russian forces downed 61 drones over the city.

A Ukrainian drone strike reportedly targeted the administrative building of the Southern Russia Air Navigation branch.

The attack disrupted operations at 13 airports across southern Russia, according to the Russian Ministry of Transport.

Authorities temporarily adjusted operations at the regional air traffic control centre in Rostov-on-Don, which supervises flights across southern Russia.

Officials confirmed that all personnel remained unharmed while technical experts examined equipment conditions.

The Ministry stated that aviation authorities and airlines were revising schedules and modifying regional air traffic procedures to maintain operational continuity.

Russia and Ukraine also accused each other of breaching a declared ceasefire.

The Russian Defence Ministry claimed Ukrainian forces committed over 1,300 violations involving drones and artillery attacks.

Moscow stated that Russian troops responded with retaliatory action.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky alleged that Russian forces conducted overnight strikes and launched hundreds of drone attacks along frontline positions.

In a post on X, Zelensky claimed Russia carried out more than 140 strikes and 10 assaults by early Friday morning.
