RSF Attack On Sinnar City In Sudan Leaves Over 20 Dead And More Than 100 Injured

In a devastating attack on Sinnar city in central Sudan, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed over 20 civilians and injured more than 100 others, local aid groups reported.

The Sinnar Youth Gathering, a local voluntary organization, described the RSF’s actions as “indiscriminate” shelling of the Sinnar market and the Al-Muwazafeen neighborhood on Sunday, according to Xinhua news agency.

The Sudanese Doctors Network, a non-governmental organization, confirmed that artillery shelling by the RSF on the Sinnar market resulted in 21 deaths and over 70 injuries, labeling the attack a “massacre” against unarmed civilians.

The RSF has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the incident.

Since June, the RSF has taken control of large portions of Sinnar state, including the capital city of Singa, while the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) maintain control over the eastern part of the state.

The International Organization for Migration estimates that the conflict in Sinnar has displaced more than 725,000 people.

Sudan has been engulfed in a deadly conflict between the SAF and the RSF since April 15, 2023. The fighting has claimed at least 16,650 lives. The latest UN data shows that about 10.7 million people are internally displaced within Sudan, while approximately 2.2 million have sought refuge in neighboring countries.
