Rocket Attack On Southern Israel Injures Three; Prompting Israeli Airstrikes On Gaza

A rocket attack launched by Hamas on Sunday injured three people in southern Israel, triggering a series of Israeli airstrikes on central Gaza later in the day.

The attack, which targeted Ashdod in southern Israel, was claimed by the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of Hamas.

The group stated that the rocket barrage was a response to alleged Israeli ‘massacres’ against Palestinian civilians.

Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee confirmed that 10 rockets were fired from Gaza, most of which were intercepted by Israel’s defense systems.

However, one rocket fell in central Ashkelon, resulting in the three injuries. Sirens were activated in Ashdod, Ashkelon, Yavne, and other nearby communities as a precautionary measure.

Israel Launches Airstrikes On Gaza

In retaliation, Israel’s military launched airstrikes targeting the city of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.

This followed an order from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a ‘tough’ response to Hamas’ actions.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) further confirmed the strike, stating that it targeted the rocket launchers responsible for the attack on Israeli territory.

Eyewitnesses in Gaza reported multiple airstrikes by Israeli forces throughout the night, with explosions heard across Deir al-Balah.

Israeli warplanes conducted successive strikes, and reconnaissance aircraft were seen flying over the area.

Casualties And Damage In Gaza

As of now, Gaza health authorities have not reported any injuries resulting from the Israeli airstrikes.

However, the situation remains tense, with the ongoing conflict showing no signs of abating.

Since resuming large-scale air and ground operations on March 18, Israel’s renewed attacks have claimed the lives of 1,335 Palestinians and left 3,297 others injured, according to Gaza health authorities.
