Rishi Sunak Expresses Concerns To China’s Premier Following Spy Arrest

Following the arrest of a parliamentary researcher for spying, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak addressed Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Sunday that he had significant concerns about China’s interference in democracy.

Sunak warned Li Qiang on Sunday that he had significant concerns about Chinese interference in the UK’s parliamentary democracy during a G20 conference in India, a Downing Street spokesperson said.

Police in the United Kingdom announced Saturday that they had detained a guy in his twenties for spying, with the Sunday Times adding that he was a researcher in the British parliament.

In March, officers from the Metropolitan Police Service arrested two men, one in his twenties and the other in his thirties, on suspicion of violating the Official Secrets Act.

While working as a parliamentary researcher, the suspect in his twenties interacted with members of the ruling Conservative Party.

Security Minister Tom Tugendhat and Commons Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Alicia Kearns were among them.
