Vladimir Putin
When asked about the possibilities of nuclear war over Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin warned the West on Wednesday that Russia would use all available means to defend itself if its sovereignty or territorial integrity were endangered.
Putin claimed that the West had often accused Russia of nuclear saber-rattling, but that this was false, pointing out that the United States had used nuclear bombs against Japan during World War II.
Putin, addressing the top editors from international news agencies in St. Petersburg, stated that Russia’s nuclear strategy allows such weapons to be employed in response to a variety of threats.
He went on to say, “For some reason, the West believes that Russia will never use it”.
“We have a nuclear doctrine, look what it says. If someone’s actions threaten our sovereignty and territorial integrity, we consider it possible for us to use all means at our disposal. This should not be taken lightly, superficially”, Putin added.
