Russian President Vladimir Putin praised India’s growing global stature and economic success under Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his meeting with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval in Saint Petersburg on Thursday.
Putin emphasized the increasing strength of the “special privileged strategic partnership” between India and Russia. He acknowledged India’s progress in state-building and economic development under PM Modi’s leadership.
Putin recalled PM Modi’s successful visit to Moscow in July, noting that the work agreed upon during that visit is advancing as expected. He also proposed a bilateral meeting with PM Modi on October 22 to review joint efforts and plan for the future.
NSA Doval visited Saint Petersburg to participate in a meeting of top security officials from BRICS countries, as Russia prepares to host the BRICS Summit from October 22-24 in Kazan. Putin thanked India for its support in security matters and invited PM Modi to the summit, stressing that security remains a shared priority.
Doval briefed Putin on PM Modi’s recent visit to Ukraine and his discussions with President Volodymyr Zelensky. He explained that the talks took place in a closed format, with only PM Modi, Zelensky, and Doval in attendance.
Putin had previously referred to PM Modi as his “good friend” during their July meeting, where he presented the Indian Prime Minister with Russia’s highest civilian honor, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle.
Earlier in the day, Putin addressed the BRICS officials, recalling how India, Russia, and China laid the foundation for BRICS during a historic meeting in Saint Petersburg.
