Nigeria has decided to honor Prime Minister Narendra Modi with its prestigious award, The Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON). This makes him the second foreign dignitary to receive the award, after Queen Elizabeth in 1969. This is the 17th international award conferred on PM Modi by a foreign country.
During his visit to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, PM Modi received a unique welcome. Officials presented him with the Key to the City, symbolizing trust and respect.
Members of the Marathi community in Nigeria expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for granting classical language status to Marathi. They praised him during a meeting, highlighting the global pride this recognition has brought to Marathi speakers.
Adding to the celebration, a vibrant Laavni dance performance showcased Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage. The traditional dance underscored the cultural bond between India and its global diaspora.
In a personal moment, PM Modi met a young Indian mountaineer who had scaled Mount Kilimanjaro carrying the Prime Minister’s photo. The climber shared his story of determination and admiration for PM Modi’s leadership.
