An Israeli scholar has expressed strong public appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his two-day State Visit to Israel beginning February 25.
She noted that many Israelis feel pride and gratitude towards the Indian leader.
Prime Minister Modi will travel to Israel at the invitation of his counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu.
This marks his second visit after the landmark 2017 trip, when he became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel and expanded cooperation in defence, agriculture and water management.
Lauren Dagan Amoss, a researcher specialising in Indian politics and foreign policy, stated that Indians residing in Israel eagerly anticipate his arrival.
She observed that the Prime Minister consistently engages with the Indian diaspora during overseas visits, which strengthens community bonds.
During the visit, the two leaders will review progress in the India-Israel Strategic Partnership.
They will explore expanded cooperation in science and technology, innovation, defence and security, agriculture, water resources, trade, economic collaboration and people-to-people ties.
Amoss emphasised that both nations confront comparable security challenges, including terrorism and radicalisation.
She said defence collaboration has therefore emerged as a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship.
She highlighted mutual learning in air defence and counter-terrorism as areas of strategic depth.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the visit will reaffirm the longstanding strategic relationship.
Both sides will exchange perspectives on regional and global developments of shared concern.
The Israeli academic described the 2017 visit as historic. She added that the forthcoming visit carries special significance amid ongoing regional tensions following the October 7 attacks and subsequent conflict in Gaza.
She noted that India’s consistent support during this period has reinforced trust at governmental and societal levels.
Amoss also pointed to defence technology cooperation as a major strength. She acknowledged that intellectual property rights and technology transfer issues could present challenges.
However, she expressed optimism that the visit would advance dialogue and unlock new avenues of collaboration.
Observers believe the visit could also catalyse fresh agreements in economic, cultural and defence sectors, and potentially strengthen discussions around the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.
