President Trump Confirms US-Iran Talks; Signals Possible Deal

US President Donald Trump revealed that his administration is presently involved in negotiations with Iran, with multiple senior officials participating in the process.

Speaking after a ceremony at the White House, he said, “We’re in negotiations, as it turned out. Now, you’ve seen what I said yesterday was exactly correct. We’re in negotiations right now.”

He mentioned that Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are among those leading the talks, along with advisers such as Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.

Trump suggested that Iran appears open to reaching an agreement, indicating a willingness on their side to negotiate terms. He further claimed that proposals linked to oil and gas had been put forward.

The US President described these proposals, including those related to the Strait of Hormuz, as highly valuable.

Trump also pointed to noticeable shifts within Iran’s leadership. He portrayed these changes as a form of internal transformation compared to earlier regimes.

Reaffirming a key policy stance, Trump emphasised that Iran would not be permitted to acquire nuclear weapons. He described this as a firm and unchanging condition of US policy.

On the status of the situation, Trump rejected claims that hostilities are ongoing, stating instead that the conflict has already been resolved. He criticised certain media narratives and maintained that opposing forces had been effectively overcome.

The US President nevertheless referred to the situation as a ‘military operation’, noting that the terminology used to describe it has differed in public discourse.

Trump also spoke about his communication with Mohammed bin Salman, commending his approach amid regional developments. He added that defence officials, including Pete Hegseth, expect the situation to stabilise soon.

The US President said this reflects confidence within the administration about an early resolution.
