President Murmu Meets Indian Community In Moldova During State Visit

President Droupadi Murmu on Monday met members of the Indian community, including students, in Moldova and appreciated their contribution to strengthening the friendship between India and the Eastern European nation.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the President acknowledged the role played by the Indian diaspora in deepening bilateral ties.

The President’s Secretariat said the community welcomed her with warmth and enthusiasm during the interaction.

President Murmu also attended a banquet hosted in her honour by Moldovan President Maia Sandu in Chisinau before departing for North Macedonia, the next destination of her three-nation visit.

President Sandu described India as the world’s largest democracy and a valued friend, noting that President Murmu’s visit was the first by an Indian Head of State to Moldova. She said the two countries were building a partnership aimed at delivering tangible benefits to their people.

Addressing a joint press conference with President Murmu, President Sandu underlined the importance of India-Moldova ties amid growing global instability. She said both countries are democracies united by shared values of freedom, dignity and public welfare, and stressed Moldova’s commitment to building a relationship with India based on trust and democratic principles.

President Sandu said Moldova has chosen cooperation and reliable partnerships, adding that India would always find a trustworthy friend in the country.

President Murmu’s visit to Moldova marked the first leg of her three-nation tour. She will next travel to North Macedonia and Romania for high-level engagements.
