President Murmu Arrives In North Macedonia On Historic State Visit

President Droupadi Murmu landed in Skopje on the second leg of her three-nation European tour after concluding her official visit to Moldova. She was received at the airport by North Macedonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timcho Mucunski.

The visit is a significant milestone as no Indian President has previously travelled to North Macedonia.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the visit reflects the strengthening partnership between India and North Macedonia and will create new opportunities for cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova invited President Droupadi Murmu to North Macedonia, where she will remain until July 22.

During the visit, President Murmu will hold bilateral talks with President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski to strengthen cooperation between the two countries. She will also meet the Speaker of the Assembly, address the Assembly, and participate in the India-North Macedonia Business Forum.

Both countries will discuss expanding cooperation in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, science and technology, information technology, and IT-enabled services.

Before arriving in North Macedonia, President Murmu completed her visit to Moldova, where she held bilateral talks with President Maia Sandu in Chisinau. She also addressed the India-Moldova Business Forum and explored ways to boost cooperation in trade, technology, agriculture, and affordable healthcare.

President Murmu will travel to Romania from July 23 to 25 for the final phase of her European tour at the invitation of President Nicuşor Dan.

The visit will be the first by an Indian President to Romania in over three decades.

The MEA stated that the three-nation tour underlines India’s commitment to enhancing relations with Eastern European nations through stronger political dialogue, increased trade and investment, and closer people-to-people exchanges.
