India Set For Colombo Practice Match Ahead Of Crucial Sri Lanka Test Challenge

India will kick off their Sri Lanka tour with a four-day practice match in Colombo from August 7 to 10 before the much-anticipated two-Test series.

The Shubman Gill-led squad will arrive in Colombo on August 4 and undergo training sessions before playing the four-day warm-up match at the Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC).

The Indian team will use the four-day warm-up match to familiarise itself with Sri Lankan pitches and weather conditions before the Test series begins. It will also provide the team management with an opportunity to fine-tune combinations before the opening Test.

Once the warm-up match concludes, the Indian team will travel to Galle for the first Test, scheduled from August 15 to 19 at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.

The second Test will then move to the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo, where play will take place from August 23 to 27.

Both matches are scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM local time.

The upcoming series holds major significance in the World Test Championship standings.

India currently occupy fifth position with a points percentage of 48.15, while Sri Lanka are sixth with 44.44.

A successful campaign could significantly improve either side’s chances of reaching the WTC Final. This will be India’s first Test series in Sri Lanka since their dominant 3-0 triumph under Virat Kohli in 2017.

The visitors head into the series after recording an emphatic innings victory over Afghanistan in June, whereas Sri Lanka will aim to bounce back following a 2-0 home series defeat against the West Indies.
