PM Narendra Modi Meets Bangladesh’s Muhammad Yunus During BIMSTEC Summit In Bangkok

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus in Bangkok. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 6th BIMSTEC Summit.

It marked their first in-person interaction since the departure of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government.

PM Modi arrived in Bangkok for the regional summit, where Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra received him at the Government House.

The leaders of BIMSTEC also observed a minute of silence to honor those who lost their lives in the 28 March earthquake that affected Myanmar and Thailand.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “With fellow BIMSTEC leaders at the Summit being held in Bangkok, Thailand. We reaffirm our commitment to boosting cooperation across diverse sectors. May our efforts bring a positive difference in people’s lives.”

Earlier, the Prime Minister met Myanmar’s Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.

Their talks focused on enhancing India-Myanmar bilateral cooperation, especially in areas like infrastructure, connectivity, and capacity building.

“Met Senior General Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. Once again expressed condolences on the loss of lives and damage of property in the wake of the recent earthquake. India is doing whatever is possible to assist our sisters and brothers of Myanmar in this critical time. We also discussed bilateral relations between India and Myanmar, particularly in sectors like connectivity, capacity building, infrastructure development and more.”

On Thursday, Prime Minister Modi held wide-ranging talks with his Thai counterpart Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

The discussions focused on strengthening political dialogue, defense and security partnerships, and expanding strategic cooperation.

Both leaders agreed to boost joint efforts in sectors such as connectivity, health, science and technology, start-ups, innovation, digital infrastructure, education, culture, and tourism.

The 6th BIMSTEC Summit, scheduled for Friday, underscores India’s deepening engagement with countries in the Bay of Bengal region, highlighting the importance of regional cooperation through the BIMSTEC platform.
