PM Modi Would Understand Me Without Translation, Says Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin underscored the enduring India-Russia partnership during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. Speaking at the Governor’s Palace in Kazan, he humorously remarked that their bond is so robust that Modi would comprehend him without the need for translation.

Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Putin recalled PM Modi’s recent visit to Moscow in July, highlighting the fruitful discussions that took place. He expressed gratitude for Modi’s attendance at the 16th BRICS Summit and emphasized the importance of making significant decisions to enhance the activities of the association. He stated, “We greatly value our cooperation in this area, as our states were at the origins of the association’s creation.”

The Russian President characterized the India-Russia relationship as a “Special Privileged Strategic Partnership,” noting its active development. He mentioned strengthening interactions between legislative bodies and constant contact between foreign ministers. He also shared that the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission is scheduled for November 12 in New Delhi.

Acknowledging Diplomatic Ties

Putin acknowledged India’s steadfast relationship with Russia amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, remarking, “Major projects are being developed consistently.” He welcomed India’s decision to open a Consulate General in Kazan, asserting that expanding India’s diplomatic presence would foster further bilateral relations.

In July, during PM Modi’s first visit to Russia since 2019, Putin honored him with the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle, Russia’s highest civilian award. On Monday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar praised the growing ties, stating that Russia has historically never acted against India’s interests. “Among the major countries, there are not many about whom you can say this,” Jaishankar said at the NDTV World Summit.
