PM Modi Receives Warm Welcome From Indian Community In Gothenburg

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm and lively welcome from members of the Indian community upon his arrival in Gothenburg on Sunday. He met members of the diaspora who had assembled in significant numbers to greet him.

Attendees waved the flags of India and Sweden and chanted slogans to welcome the Prime Minister.

PM Modi attended cultural performances alongside Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson as part of the reception programme.

The event included an orchestral performance, and Swedish opera singer Charlotta Huldt presented ‘Vaishnava Jana To’ during the welcome ceremony.

PM Modi described the reception by the Indian community as deeply touching and acknowledged their contribution to strengthening bilateral ties.

Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “The warmth and affection of the Indian community in Gothenburg were truly heartening. Their deep connection with India and their contribution to strengthening India-Sweden ties make us all very proud.”

In a separate post, PM Modi added, “It is heartening to see the timeless thoughts of Bapu continue to reverberate in Sweden. Swedish opera singer Charlotta Huldt sang ‘Vaishnava Jana To’ during the welcome in Gothenburg. May Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts inspire us all to make a better planet!”

Earlier, PM Modi reached Sweden after concluding his visit to the Netherlands. PM Ulf Kristersson welcomed him at the airport.

Both leaders will address the European Round Table for Industry, a major platform of European business leaders, along with Ursula von der Leyen.

The visit reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between India and Sweden in areas such as innovation, trade, and sustainability.

PM Modi had earlier visited Sweden in 2018 for the first India-Nordic Summit, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations.
