Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s long-standing position that parties must resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomatic engagement rather than confrontation.
In his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem, he underscored the importance of sustained dialogue amid evolving regional tensions.
At a concluding media briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri explained that the Prime Minister conveyed India’s willingness to contribute constructively to initiatives aimed at achieving stability and peace.
“I would just like to mention that the regional situation, these tensions, other tensions as well that figure in the region, without going into details, did come up for discussions between the two Prime Ministers. The Prime Minister made his point, stating India’s firm belief in the value of dialogue and the value of pursuing peaceful solutions to all such issues, and also reiterated his readiness to offer India’s support if there is any way in which India’s support is required to stand ready to offer that support towards a peaceful solution,” he noted.
Misri clarified that although he did not disclose specific details, the Prime Minister clearly articulated India’s belief in peaceful solutions. He also offered India’s support wherever the country could help advance reconciliation.
The Foreign Secretary observed that the visit forms part of the Prime Minister’s broader outreach to nations across West Asia. He stated that the engagement demonstrates the importance India attaches to its growing partnership with Israel.
According to Misri, the visit marks an important juncture in bilateral relations. He remarked that it builds upon significant achievements of the past decade and prepares the ground for deeper cooperation in the years ahead.
He added that discussions during the visit further strengthened the diverse partnership between the two democracies and reinforced their shared commitment to progress, technological advancement and regional stability.
One of the central moments of the visit was Prime Minister Modi’s address to a special plenary session of the Knesset, delivered at the invitation of Speaker Amir Ohana.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Opposition Leader Yair Lapid also addressed the gathering.
During the ceremony, the Knesset conferred the Medal of the Knesset on Prime Minister Modi in recognition of his role in strengthening strategic ties between the two countries. This made him the first leader to receive the honour.
