Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Victoria Premier Jacinta Allan to celebrate the strong sporting relationship between India and Australia.
The event also featured celebrated Australian sports personalities, including former cricketers Steve Waugh and Lisa Sthalekar.
At the iconic venue, the leaders met young athletes who showcased their skills through exhibition matches of cricket, Kabaddi and Australian rules football.
PM Modi appreciated the participants and highlighted the ability of sport to foster friendships and strengthen connections beyond national boundaries.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said he was pleased to watch talented youngsters display their abilities at the MCG.

During the programme, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Albanese jointly launched the India-Australia Sports Collaboration Roadmap.
The initiative seeks to enhance cooperation in sports science, coaching, infrastructure, youth engagement and talent development while further strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
Addressing those present, PM Modi described sport as a powerful medium for promoting unity and mutual understanding among people. He also congratulated Australia on its Women’s Cricket World Cup victory and expressed confidence that the new partnership would further diversify sporting exchanges between the two countries.
Looking ahead, the Prime Minister pointed out that India will host the Commonwealth Games in 2030, while Australia will stage the Brisbane Olympic Games in 2032. He said these major events provide an ideal platform for both nations to deepen cooperation in sports, innovation, infrastructure and youth development, further strengthening bilateral ties.
