PM Modi Praises Slovak Schoolchildren For Yoga Demonstration Ahead Of International Yoga Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday appreciated the enthusiasm shown by Slovak schoolchildren who participated in a Yoga demonstration during his visit to Bratislava.

The event was attended by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and formed part of the activities leading up to International Yoga Day on 21 June.

In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister remarked that it was encouraging to witness young people embracing Yoga and noted that the practice continues to connect communities across the world through a common focus on wellness.

The programme coincided with a Yoga camp organised at Slovakia’s Presidential Palace, where students performed a series of Yoga exercises before the two leaders.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that PM Modi and President Pellegrini recognised Yoga’s increasing popularity beyond national borders and highlighted its contribution to physical health, mental well-being, and balanced living

Apart from attending the Yoga event, the Prime Minister held discussions with Dr Robert Gáfrik, a distinguished Slovak academic who has been instrumental in translating the Upanishads into Slovak.

PM Modi acknowledged the scholar’s longstanding interest in India’s cultural and spiritual traditions and praised his efforts to make ancient Indian texts accessible to Slovak readers.

Observed every year on 21 June, International Yoga Day seeks to promote awareness of Yoga’s wide-ranging benefits for body and mind.

The initiative originated from a proposal made by PM Modi at the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.

Later that year, the United Nations endorsed the proposal and officially designated 21 June as the International Day of Yoga.

Since then, the observance has expanded significantly, with people across the globe participating in Yoga sessions, community events, and wellness programmes that encourage healthier lifestyles and greater harmony.
