Stock Market Today: Sensex Opens 300 Points Higher, Nifty Nears 23,950

Indian stock markets opened higher on Tuesday as improving global sentiment over easing US-Iran tensions lifted the Sensex more than 300 points to 76,579 and pushed the Nifty nearly 90 points higher to around 23,941 in early trade.

Buying activity was visible across several key sectors, with real estate, information technology, consumer durables, and financial services stocks attracting investors.

The Nifty Realty index emerged among the top performers with a gain of nearly 0.86 per cent, while the Nifty IT index rose about 0.74 per cent.

Shares from the FMCG, media, chemicals, and automobile segments also traded in the green.

In contrast, metal counters witnessed profit-booking, causing the Nifty Metal index to decline by more than one per cent.

Hindalco Industries, JSW Steel, Axis Bank, HDFC Life, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, and Tata Steel featured among the major losers.

Investors drew confidence from the continued moderation in international oil prices.

Brent crude slipped to around 82.86 dollars per barrel, while US benchmark WTI crude eased to 80.57 dollars per barrel.

Market observers noted that lower energy costs, combined with the rupee’s recent appreciation against the US dollar, have improved the overall macroeconomic outlook and reduced concerns surrounding external account pressures.

Reports suggest that Washington and Tehran have reached a memorandum of understanding intended to conclude the nearly four-month conflict, with a formal signing expected later this week.

The possibility of shipping operations through the Strait of Hormuz returning to normal has also eased fears of supply disruptions in global energy markets.

Global Markets and Risks

Across Asia, most major indices traded higher, mirroring gains on Wall Street, where both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq ended the previous session with strong advances.

Analysts warned that below-average monsoon rainfall could still create inflationary challenges and would remain under scrutiny.
