On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India’s young population is leading the country’s rapid transformation in technology and innovation, with growing ambitions in areas such as Artificial Intelligence and semiconductor manufacturing.
Speaking to members of the Indian diaspora in The Hague during his visit to the Netherlands, the Prime Minister said India is witnessing major progress across digital infrastructure, entrepreneurship and advanced technology sectors.
PM Modi stated that young Indians are increasingly focusing on emerging industries, including AI, defence technology and semiconductors, which he said are shaping the country’s future economic growth.
Highlighting India’s startup ecosystem, the Prime Minister said the country now has the world’s third-largest startup network and nearly 125 unicorns. He noted that Indian startups are making significant contributions in sectors linked to defence, space and digital innovation.
The Prime Minister also referred to India’s role in global technology discussions, saying the country recently hosted a major international AI Summit after successfully organising the G20 Summit.
According to him, such achievements reflect the changing identity of modern India.
PM Modi further said India has implemented the world’s largest digital identity programme and financial inclusion initiative. He added that the pace of digitalisation in the country has been unprecedented in recent years.
The Prime Minister also highlighted welfare and scientific achievements, mentioning that India is operating the world’s biggest government-funded health insurance scheme under Ayushman Bharat.
Referring to India’s space programme, the Prime Minister said Indian scientists had successfully reached regions of the Moon that no other country had explored earlier, showcasing the nation’s growing scientific capability.
PM Modi said the aspirations of India’s youth are expanding rapidly and added that their innovation and entrepreneurial spirit are playing a central role in the country’s development journey.
